PUPIL AS ACTING HEAD FOR THE DAY AT SHEBBEAR COLLEGE!

5th Form pupil Michael Footitt, from Bude, submitted the winning bid to be ‘Acting Headmaster’ in the Children in Need auction last November . Michael and Mr Barnes set the date for 18th January when pupils and staff enjoyed the experience of having two Headmasters for the day!

When asked the Acting Head to give us his impression of his day, he replied.. “ I purchased a new suit especially for the occasion and I couldn’t wait to experience the authority of being in charge of the school (ably guided by Mr Barnes of course) I started the day at 7.45 am sitting in Mr Barnes’s chair. The teachers and pupils all addressed me as Mr Footitt and I felt the full weight of responsibility of the job. When one of the staff complained about the taste of the coffee in the staff room I was quick to point out that they should be grateful for any coffee! I was involved in decision making and it was great to sit at the dinner table with the teachers and to be in charge of them..It was my best day at Shebbear College!”

And Mr Barnes’ thoughts on the day…. Michael approached the day with zeal and maturity, making valued contributions to discussions on the positioning of some new classrooms and on our publicity strategy. He also helped show prospective parents around the College and we worked well as a team.
